JIM BESSMAN
Jim Bessman was a rare man in the world of music writing; a true advocate and friend. He was a humble and generous fellow. He was always welcome at our shows but never asked for anything.
That there were spontaneous gatherings of his friends on either coast during the last days, one in NYC at which his friend, Valerie Simpson, sang in tribute or in reading the thoughtful and loving words of his sister, Ruthanne, will give you a measure of the man.
The Imposters and I so valued Jim’s friendship and generous support. We will miss seeing him at our next show in his neighbourhood. When we finally return to his hometown of Madison, later this year, you can be sure Jim will be in our thoughts.
