It was a great pleasure to fulfill our postponed engagement at the beautiful Heinz Hall and to have it so warmly received by our friends in Pittsburgh.
It was therefore distressing to read that anyone was disappointed by the sound balance, although it must be stated that the following writer was clearly in a very small, if vociferous, minority.

Just read these words in your head and you'll know why no less a poet than Leonard Cohen said, "We are all as footnotes to Chuck Berry"
It was the afternoon of Valentine’s Day.
The phone was ringing.
I picked it up and said, “Hello”…
That exuberant reply of, “Hey, Man” was no cliché…
Tommy LiPuma was always and always will be hip.

I had visited Village Recorders when Leon and Elton John were recording "The Union" and reminded him that we had met on one previous occasion, at a televised salute to Willie Nelson on which he had joined Willie and Ray Charles for a supernatural performance of Leon's great "Song For You", which Aretha Franklin or Donnie Hathaway had possessed until that evening.

This evening kicked off with Marcus Mumford inducting Elvis Costello (suitable because the two worked together on the recent New Basement Tapes album of Bob Dylan re-imaginings). “I’m going to do a quick bit of stand-up,” said before leading the house band into Costello’s “Pump It Up.”
The late Marvin Gaye, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, Chip Taylor and Chic (Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards) were inducted into the Songwriters Hall in New York City on Thursday night
A conversation with markedly self-aware, often irreverent Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Elvis Costello can launch into any number of tangents. For this songwriting-focused exchange, he goes deep into the conflict of loyalties that fueled hit “Oliver’s Army,” his time-tested writing process, and why the identity of the subject of “Alison” shall remain a mystery.
Elvis Costello takes his acclaimed Detour solo show for another spin in May including 4 nights at the London Palladium May 10th-14th.

News of the passing of Sir George Martin could only ever be greeted by both sadness and the deepest gratitude.
George Martin produced the first 45rpm disc and long-playing records that I was given as a child. He produced the first E.P. for which I paid with my own pocket money. This is an experience that I know I probably share with thousands upon thousands, if not millions of listeners and admirers.
It is with deep sadness and the very fondest memories that we must report the passing of Milo Lewis.
I've loved the songs of Dan Hicks since I stumbled on "Where's The Money?" back in 1972.
That was one of Dan's early albums with The Hot Licks and like, "Striking It Rich" and "The Last Train To Hicksville" - filled with swinging music, sharp wit, dark humour and unique melodies like, "I Scare Myself".
He even offered an epitaph, way back when, with the song, "It's Not My Time To Go".
It never will be time.
"I have been so lucky to spend even this little time with Allen Toussaint.
I’m grateful to Blue Rider for allowing me to present these amended excerpts from Chapter 28 of “Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink” to tell some of this story.
Allen was unfailingly gracious, elegant and musically curious.
We last shared the stage at the Civic Center in New Orleans in February of this year. As always, he was thoughtful, bringing a late Mardi Gras gift for my wife and asking after the well-being of my sons and my mother, who he had once visited on a trip around Merseyside.
He signed off every note and phone call the same way; “Looking Forward”.
I will miss him very much."
Elvis Costello Has Created A Soundtrack Album To His Memoir That Will Include Hits, Favorites And Two Unreleased Tracks
Elvis Costello has compiled a 38-track, 2-CD set 'Unfaithful Music &
Soundtrack Album' as a companion to his memoir
'Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink', Out Now.
Mr. Costello’s book, “Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink,” manages to be all these things, and a pint of Guinness and a bag of chips. It’s streaked with some of the best writing – funny, strange, spiteful, anguished – we’ve ever had from an important musician.
In a world littered with uneven (and largely ghosted) celebrity memoirs, “Disappearing Ink” is a beautifully written revelation. Dare I blaspheme by declaring I liked it even more than the excellent memoirs produced by Bob Dylan and Keith Richards? Costello embraces the basic qualities of good storytelling: the use of detail, tension and humor. At 672 pages, “Disappearing Ink” is actually a breeze.
Elvis Costello's new memoir "Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink" will be published on Tuesday 13th October
The idiosyncratic memoir of a singular man, Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink is destined to be a classic.

The New Basement Tapes, the band name assumed by these five songwriters, each of whom took turns composing arrangements for Dylan’s lyrics, speaks more to the notion of reviving the spirit of those storied sessions in the present than adding to their legacy by resurrecting and completing these once abandoned songs.

To some, Elvis Costello’s 35-year career may come off like a game of pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey. When the tail lands on the gut, he unleashes an angry anthem. Near the heart? Time for a ballad. On a hoof? Must be the cue for a ballet. Right on the rear? How boring.
